Cookies

Last updated: 1 September 2026

This Cookie Policy explains how Português do Rio (“we”, “us” or “our”) uses cookies and similar technologies on portuguesdorio.com.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your computer, phone or other device when you visit a website. They allow a website to recognise your browser, remember information and provide features such as secure sign-in and visitor preferences.

Some cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Others remain until they expire or you delete them.

How we use cookies

We use:

Analytics cookies are optional. They should only be activated after you have given your consent.

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are required for the website to operate and cannot normally be disabled using our cookie controls. You may block them in your browser, but account, form or security features might then stop working.

CookieProviderPurposeTypical duration
pw280sPortuguês do Rio / ProcessWireMaintains a secure website session. It may be used for account access, forms, security checks and other session-based functionality.Normally until the browser is closed, or until the server-side session expires
pw280s_challengePortuguês do Rio / ProcessWireHelps ProcessWire protect authenticated sessions and recognise a previous login securely. It may appear when account or login functionality is used.Varies according to the site’s session and security configuration
user_consentPortuguês do RioRecords your cookie choice so that we do not repeatedly ask for the same preference.Up to one year

The precise name of a ProcessWire session cookie can differ between HTTP and HTTPS connections or following a security configuration change. It may therefore appear with a slightly different suffix.

ProcessWire stores the substantive session information on the server. The browser cookie normally contains only the identifier needed to associate the browser with that server-side session. Current ProcessWire also supports security controls including secure-only cookies, HttpOnly protection and SameSite restrictions.

Google Analytics

Subject to your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (“GA4”), a website analytics service provided by Google.

Google Analytics helps us understand matters such as:

We use this information to analyse general usage patterns and improve the website. Google Analytics assigns identifiers to browsers and sessions; we do not use it to ask Google to identify you personally.

GA4 commonly uses the following first-party cookies:

CookieProviderPurposeDefault maximum duration
_gaGoogle AnalyticsDistinguishes one browser or visitor from another for statistical measurement.Up to two years
_ga_<container-id>Google AnalyticsMaintains information about an Analytics session. The final characters identify the relevant GA4 data stream.Up to two years

Actual lifetimes can be shorter because of our settings, your consent choice, browser restrictions or manual deletion. Google notes that browsers can impose shorter limits—for example, where a visitor does not return to the site.

If Google Analytics is connected to Google Ads or other Google measurement products, additional advertising or measurement cookies may be used. We will update this policy and our consent controls before enabling any such functionality where consent is required.

Google provides more information in its GA4 cookie documentation and Privacy Policy.

Google Consent Mode

Where Google tags are present, we use—or intend our consent mechanism to use—Google Consent Mode to communicate your choices to Google.

Before analytics consent is given, analytics_storage should be set to denied. Advertising-related consent signals, including ad_storage, ad_user_data and ad_personalization, should also remain denied unless the relevant functionality is used and you have consented to it.

Depending on the Consent Mode implementation, Google tags may either:

Cookieless signals do not place GA4 analytics cookies on your device, but they can still constitute the transmission of limited information to Google. Our consent implementation should clearly reflect which of these approaches is in use.

More information is available in Google’s Consent Mode documentation.

Managing your preferences

When you first visit the website, you can accept or reject optional analytics cookies.

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie settings control on the website. Withdrawing consent will prevent future optional analytics storage. We will also take reasonable steps to remove optional first-party analytics cookies previously placed by our website.

You can additionally delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent account access, forms or other parts of the website from working correctly.

Google also provides a Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Third-party websites and services

Our website may contain links to other websites or use third-party services. If you follow an external link or interact with third-party content, that provider may set its own cookies. We do not control those cookies, and the provider’s own cookie and privacy policies will apply.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when our website, cookie controls, analytics configuration or legal obligations change. The date at the top indicates when it was most recently updated.
